Strategy Matrix: Case Studies

Oregon School District

In July, 2007, the Oregon (WI) School District assembled almost 100 administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and community representatives for a two-day “Vision” retreat. On the second day of the retreat, teams of 4-5 participants evaluated over 60 trends, initiatives, opportunities, threats, and innovations on their potential impact on the District’s four major strategic objectives and key characteristics.

The resulting Strategy Matrix gave the School Board critical information on the School District’s key strategic planning decisions. Contact us for additional information on this project.

Optimist International

Faced with the typical volume of initiatives proposed in a strategic planning process, the Optimist International Board used a highly facilitated Strategy Matrix process to evaluate — and ultimately help the Board set the priorities — for implementation. The Board evaluated over 60 initiatives on the extent to which they would “support” the accomplishment of the Board’s established “Strategic Objectives” and “Key Characteristics.” Contact us for additional information on this project.

Career Edition

The Strategy Matrix – Career Edition has been used by almost 1000 college students to evaluate trends, issues, i.e., personal issues, alternatives, and innovations against their career goals and personal key characteristics.

In a special “pilot” project, a select group of twenty students completed their Strategy Matrix – Career Edition projects with information added from the work of Marcus Buckingham on Strengths. The following documents summarize the results of this project:
